Background
The Ethiopian Human Rights Defenders Center (EHRDC) has launched an internship program aimed at providing hands-on experience to interns in assisting various human rights programs. The program seeks to engage youths who are interested in advocacy, human rights protection, and capacity-building activities. Interns will support EHRDC’s ongoing projects, including the management of university human rights clubs and other advocacy initiatives.
Position Summary
The Intern will play a crucial role in supporting EHRDC’s human rights programs and initiatives. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in program implementation, advocacy, and human rights education. The intern will contribute to the development and coordination of human rights clubs in universities, assist in planning and executing advocacy activities, and deepen their understanding of human rights issues in Ethiopia.
Key Responsibilities
The interns will assist in the following activities:
- Program Coordination: Supporting the management of university human rights clubs, including communication with student human rights club leaders, organizing events, and coordinating club activities.
- Advocacy Support and Human Rights Education: Assisting in the planning and executing advocacy campaigns and intra-campus debate on relevant human rights issues. This includes developing advocacy materials and facilitating events.
- Research: Supporting research initiatives on human rights, youth HRDs and advocacy activities, opportunities, and resources, contributing to reports, case studies, and other club documents.
- Monitoring and Evaluation: Assisting in monitoring the progress of human rights clubs in their project and activities, including gathering data and preparing evaluation reports.
Qualification Requirements
- Recent graduates, with up to three years of working experience in law, human rights, political science, or a related field with one year of experience in managing projects or engaging in implementing program activities.
- Strong interest in human rights advocacy and education.
- Good communication skills, both written and oral (Amharic, English, and other local language will be beneficial).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic knowledge of project and reporting.
- Commitment to the values and principles of EHRDC
